The wooded inlet of the Laita will provide you with unforgettable moments.  The tides rise and fall, covering and uncovering the little islands on the river bed where the sea birds flirt with those from the woodlands.

Discover

-whilst walking to the rhythm of the Laita and its birds, the historical site of the ancient abbey and the forest of Saint Maurice which covers 120 hectares and borders the magnificent forest of Carnoet.

-the artist"s path of Le Pouldu where you can follow the steps of the famous painters, such as Gauguin, and along the route discover copies of some of their works of art.  Look up and you will see the view and realise you are very close to the spot where the artist sat and painted this very picture.  Wonderful.

For those of you looking for a sporty brittany holiday on the southern coast of the Finistere, you will find

Bikes, boats, canoes, kayaks, surf boards and windsurfers for hire, walking & cycling routes, sea a shore fishing and horse riding.

The farm of Cotonard offers horse riding and pony & trap rides.  A wonderful way to discover the pleasures of the sea, the countryside and the forest.

Restaurants

Whether you have chosen a self catering brittany holiday gite or bed & breakfast accommodation, you will be spoilt for choice with the creperies and restaurants in the countryside, at the ports and in the towns. For example,

In the forest on the edge of the River Laita, La Creperie St Maurice, where you will find a generous choice of traditional crepes, teas, beers and ciders.  A good spot to aim for when you are walking along the inlet.

Just across the road from Gwennroz, at the Relais des Peintres. You'll receive a warm welcome from Yannick and Laetitia.  Lunchtime menus, salads, omelettes, pizzas and even a 'gourmet' menu some evenings.

The Hotel-Restaurant of Le Pouldu is a truly traditional seaside restaurant and its reputation is merited.  Seafood platters, oysters, mussels, crabs and menus.  You can eat on the terrace in summer and watch the activities on the river and sea as you do so.

Le Bistro de la Tour in Quimperle, decorated in 1930s style, where you will discover the original choices on the menu and taste the wines selected from a cellar that is recognised as one of the best in the region.

The Auberge de St Germain, a good country restaurant with a quirky decor on the route to Clohars Carnoet.  A warm and friendly welcome from Jacqueline and Thomas.  Honest food and good value.  You must eat here at least once during your stay.

The Suroit at the little port of Doelan, just 5 minutes drive from Gwennroz, where the fish and seafood is delivered daily.  On sunny days, enjoy Moules frites or oysters on the terrace, or a plate of their home smoked fish, or a fresh crab, or a salad.
